TIPS, TRICKS & FAQS
All Sessions
When to book
As soon as you as possible.
Location
Natural Light / Outdoors
Sunsets give life to images and overcast days make for rich warm tones.
The best time for natural light sessions is during golden hour; this is an hour and a half before sunset. Golden hour offers diffused and even lighting which enhances colours. That being said, if a session is booked which ends up being entirely cloudy and overcast with no chance of sun, then anytime is a good time to shoot.
Studio & Home / Indoors
Indoor sessions usually take place early morning to early afternoon, in saying as the lighting can be controlled they can take place at any time during the day.
Styling and What to Wear
Try to dress yourself and your family in something you would normally wear that is a bit more dressed up then usual. A helpful to tip to really make an image is to remember to dress head to toe and to think layers. If the weather turns out warmer/cooler than you anticipated when putting together outfits dressing with layers is a great way to adjust outfits to suit the weather.
Remember to dress down to you and your family's feet! Try to incorporate some fun dressier shoes.
Another tip is to only have one person be in a pattern (usually mum) and everyone else dress in complementing colour; as too many patterns can get distracting.
Side note: Stay away from neon or bright colours, hats, clothing with logos or anything with wording and scuffed runners.
Pinterest is an amazing source for idea's!
Maternity Sessions
When to book
You can have maternity photography taken at any time of your pregnancy.
Some want to have photos taken to announce their pregnancy and use the occasion as a last chance to get a couples session done before your family grows whilst you haven’t started showing yet.
For classic maternity portraits, the ideal time is early in the third trimester, usually between 32–36 weeks. This is a general guideline, so if your preferred timing falls outside this range, that’s completely fine
If you are expecting multiples, this timeframe is usually moved earlier, as your bump will become more prominent sooner, and sessions are typically moved up by about a month.

Newborn Sessions
When to book
I generally recommend booking your newborn session for around 10 days after your due date or baby’s arrival.
Because babies arrive on their own schedule, I always ask clients to contact me once baby is born so we can adjust the session date if needed.
Location
Studio & Home / Indoors
Newborn sessions are mainly held in the studio, as it provides a safe, warm, and controlled environment that’s ideal for little ones.
Sessions typically take place in the morning to early afternoon, but since lighting can be adjusted indoors, they can usually be held at any time of day.
Styling and What to Wear
Choose outfits that feel like a slightly dressed-up version of your everyday style — comfortable, simple, and timeless.
For newborn sessions, I recommend avoiding bold patterns or busy prints, as they can distract from baby. Neutral, soft tones photographs beautifully and help keep the focus on baby and their little details.

A few tips:
• Think about how the outfits will look both individually and together.
• Avoid clothing with logos, words, or bold patterns that distract from your faces.
• Pick a colour scheme, and have each family member wear complementary tones — coordinated but not matching.

FAQ

How do I book a photography session?
WHAT DO WE WEAR?
HOW AND WHEN DO WE GET OUR IMAGES?
I understand and can relate to the anticipation of seeing your final photos. All sessions receive their images via an online gallery where you can download straight to your device. Our editing process typically takes 1-3 weeks, depending on the volume of images and the complexity of editing required. We prioritise quality and attention to detail to deliver images that hopefully exceed your expectations.
DO YOU PICK THE LOCATION OR DO WE?
Both, I can choose a location or you can choose. Light is a huge influencer in regards to choosing a location, it can make or break a session. Another influencer is the time of year and what season the session is.
